Whoa whoa whoa, I’m not going off the rails here…completely. My relationship with technology is one that I have long been unhappy with. It stems from a lack of energy, motivation, and time to be creative, to find what I am truly meant to do in life, and being overwhelmed with the possibilities, so I did what was easy, accessible, and mindless.

Like I mentioned in my last post I have been given a gift. In a few short months, I plan on leaving my traditional job in social media management to explore and discover what my passions are and (hopefully) find something that allows me to feel simultaneously creative, free, and make me money. I am very excited about this as well as cutting all ties professionally to social media and cutting most ties personally to social media. My primary device will be a dumb phone and I cannot wait to not only regain a sense of free will, my time, but also not allowing as much of my personal data to be used against me.
Did you know that the value of data has officially surpassed the value of oil? It’s your information, your personal data, and yet not only do you not see a cent if and when it is used, but the corporate overlords that currently run our country and our world use it against us. Disseminating fake news stories, deciding the results of national elections, waging digital wars on the most vulnerable populations. I am determined to no longer be a piece in their chess game and cannot wait to feel as though I have my life back.
This is all a very long winded way of explaining why The Rolodex Revival is so important to me and why after more than a dozen years of trying to make it a successful business (and failing) I still haven’t given up. I think and I hope more and more people will take their lives back from their smartphones and join in the low tech revolution. I think more than anything as creatives having limited access to technology is crucial to being our most authentic artists. But even if you’re not an artist, something analogue can have huge benefits in your life. Too many passwords? Rolodex. Looking for a never-ending journal? Rolodex. Want to organize but then be able to reorganize (again and again and again) the plot of your novel? Rolodex.
Join me, in even a small way, and reclaim your autonomy. Put your phone away, find yourself a Rolodex, and go wild.
